well i installed it and i haven't noticed anything different, the fans seem 
normal to me in both OSX and Linux (using BIOS/LILO), of course i'm not really 
in a low noise environment and can only hear the fans is they pass 4500 rpm 
(out of a 6000rpm MAX) or so if they are running more its certainly not at 
100%, btw i'm on a MBP

as for reverting the version, you might want to try and download the old one 
and see if you can make it install, but i think it will just say you have the 
latest version and refuse to install, and the firmware reset CD says it won't 
revert the firmware if it was successful, so i think your best option to to 
find out whats causing it and somehow get it fixed
