I have exactly the same problem, vanilla + mactel patches (including 
sigmatel_audio).

mplayer /usr/share/games/frozen-bubble/snd/introzik.ogg

works perfectly, while

mplayer -ao sdl /usr/share/games/frozen-bubble/snd/introzik.ogg

plays really slowly, like if the CPU was too slow (even though the CPU 
usage is very low)...

The problem can be fixed by forcing the CPU speed at maximum speed 
(1.83ghz on both cores for my macbook pro 15"). Anyway, this is clearly 
a bug...
