yes

With Debian,
just use the regular procedure to install it:
at the partition step, just repartition your drive
(namely erase the native partition).

  Does it work?

It may work:
1] in any case you can reinstall the native Mac stuff (this is really easy and 
fast)
2] the X window stuff may not fully work
(if you are gamer you do care, if you crunches numbers you do not care):
