You do not need Boot Camp to install Linux or resize your disk.

You can resize any partition (and not just one as limited by Boot
Camp) by using the Mac OS X command line tool "diskutil resizeVolume".

For example see [1] or "man diskutil".

If you do not repartition the disk yourself before installing Mac OS X
and then have the default partitioning you could use Boot Camp to
resize an existing system (without having to reinstall Mac OS X). So
in your case you can use either Boot Camp or diskutil resizeVolume.
