I also experience a similar problem with my mac mini duo, exactly how you
describe the symptoms, except it only happens when I have USB devices attached.
I've yet to find the cause of the problem, let alone a solution.
Maybe our issues are related?

poweroff never worked on my MacBook.
Whenever i shut down my MacBook, the display gets black (backlight
stays on) and i can still hear the fan, etc.. I then have to press the
power button several seconds to power off the MacBook.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem or is there an easy fix for
that problem that I just have not come across yet?
