I'd read the specs that way too. However, sometimes the specs say that 
because of a hardware limitation, sometimes because of a software 
limitation, and sometimes because a larger SO-DIMM of approprate 
physical size wasn't available for testing at the time of release.
It's an expensive experiment to find out for sure.
