Sorry, my original reply was sent only to Jerome:
I upgraded to 2.6.20 (vanilla+mactel) yesterday and have "fully" working
sound.  Most of things work out of the box (speakers, headphone jack),
but the microphone requires toggling of the "Input Source" in the mixer. 
After this, the mic will work until you reboot.  Haven't had time to test
the line-in, but I presume it will work as well.

Now my reply to his reply: (confusing huh?)
I'm on MacBook 1st gen (Core Duo) on x86 kernel.  I also used the default 
config options for the kernel except for the SATA-related things to get it to 
boot.  I can include it if you'd like.
