Thomas, I'm not sure if you've seen this but Julien Blache has
discussed this on his blog:

http://blog.technologeek.org/

I think he says the lowest he gets is around 25 W which corresponds to
less than two hours of battery life. I'm using OS X now so I can't
give you a reading but when I run Linux on my C2D MBP I usually get a
projected battery life of 1.5 hrs which matches what you're seeing.

As I understand it this is one of the main (if not the main) open
problem with Linux on these machines. It seems that the MBP has some
hardware that controls the power profile of a lot of the rest of the
hardware . This is called (I think) the system management controller
(SMC) and it is not, as yet, being taken full advantage of in Linux.
I hope some progress is made on this soon but so far I haven't seen
much change.

cheers,
Sheer
