That's the conclusion I came to as well. Unless your / partition is ext2
then a shared seems the only way to go.  I'd probably make a shared HFS
un-journaled seeing as how the linux kernel already has support for it. I'm
lazy like that.  Give ExtFS a try under OSX and report back... :-)
