Ubuntu Feisty Beta installed on my MacBookPro: GRUB installed fine and needed no tweaking.
Wireless drivers were installed and working as soon as I booted the live CD I was prompted to install the ATI fglrx drivers, which succeeded and wrote a beautiful xorg.conf, complete with "Composite" disabled. I had to add "1680x1050" to a bunch of subsections to get my resolution correct. Trackpad tap-click works out of the box. All function buttons work, including display brightness, audio, and keyboard backlight, and they even have a little display that pops up like in OS X! Runs much cooler than when I was running Fedora, SUSE, or Mandrake. (I don't know anything about the applesmc kernel modules or whatever, but it seems to run cooler). I am excited about this because I'm not very good at configuring and I'd rather that things JUST WORK out of the box. Feisty is the first distro that I have seen that gets this many things working out of the box. Hell, most distros required significant time just to get the bootloader working, with hours of frustrating work to get everything else going. As a noob and someone who just wants to use Linux and not f- around all day, Feisty is a blessing. http://releases.ubuntu.com/feisty/ Link ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
