I've been trying to get an install of CentOS 5.0 working on an Intel Core2Duo iMac, and have not had any success. The installation goes fine, but then I am unable to boot into the system. With linux rescue, I can get a command prompt, and from what I've been able to figure out, the problem is with grub.
When I try to install/fix GRUB, I get the following problem: # grub-install /dev/sda The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly. # grub-install /dev/sda1 The file /boot/grub/stage1 not read correctly. # df /boot/grub/. File system 1K-Blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 472158992 3086296 444701496 1% / # grub --version grub (GNU GRUB 0.97) And sda2 is a swap partition; there are no other partitions on the drive. Any ideas? Gentoo-wiki.com tells me that I should upgrade to 0.97-r2 or -r3, but the instructions are only for how to update on a stable system, and I can't find any already-assembled boot/rescue CDs using anything newer than 0.97. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
