hi guys. after switching to 2.6.21+mactel in Debian Etch on my 15" MBP
C2D, i noticed that audio didn't work. after fiddling around and
reading this page:
    http://wiki.debian.org/MacBookPro
here's what i've found...

screenshots of my kmix settings can be found here:
    http://www.deadorange.com/temp/alsa_settings.png

misc notes:
-plugging headphones into the headphone jack disables the speakers
-plugging headphones into the line-in jack causes audio to be heard in
the headphones *and* speakers

"Output" tab:
-PCM seems to control both the headphone and speakers
-"Front" doesn't seem to do anything
-"Surround" affects the headphones
-"Center" affects the left speaker
-"LFE" affects the right speaker
-"Side" doesn't seem to do anything
-"Mux" doesn't seem to do anything

"Switches" tab:
-toggling "Line In as Output" turns the speakers on/off
-"Mic as Output" doesn't seem to do anything
-"IEC958" doesn't seem to do anything
-"Input Source" dropdown list doesn't seem to do anything

"Input" tab:
-no idea about either channel, as i haven't got recording working

so, here're my questions to everyone:
1) is anyone who is also using 2.6.21+mactel experiencing different
behaviour to what i outlined above?
2) does anyone know what the channels listed above that seem to do
nothing are for?
3) how do you get audio recording to work?
4) why must headphones be plugged into the line-in jack, rather than
the headphone jack?

i'm especially interested in getting audio recording to work, as i'd
like to be able to use VoIP. however, i really don't know how to go
about debugging and fixing this. any suggestions would be great.

cheers,
Nick
