i just upgraded from 2.6.21.1+mactel to 2.6.22.1+mactel and installed
the latest (8.39.4) proprietary ATI driver. with just the "regular"
kernel suspend (IE: without uswsusp or suspend2/TuxOnIce),
suspend-to-RAM works flawlessly with Ortwin's "mbps2ram" script.

suspending and resuming even fixes the "wifi0: rx FIFO overrun;
resetting" error that happens every now and then. upon resume, wifi
works again.

also, nothing bad happens to the keyboard or touchpad. the
"appletouch" module doesn't need to be reloaded, and the features
provided by synaptics (Eg: 2- and 3-finger taps) continue to work.

i'm going to figure out how much power is drawn while suspended to
RAM, and how long you can leave your Mac suspended to RAM before the
battery is drained from full to empty. in the mean time, has anyone
else investigated this?
