When you're in Finder, go to the desktop and select your computer's name. Hit command I. Thing brings up info on the selected file or folder or, in this case, volume. Interact with the scroll area, and use VO navigation to navigate around. You will hear things like "name," and "kind," and "last modified," and eventually, you should hear "capacity," and a number, then "available," and a number. The available number is your answer. When you've gotten all the info you want out of this window, simply close it. \I hope that's what you were looking for. I also hope I'm not the 8th person to post an answer... :)
