What does it tell you? Does it give you any dialog? If the cmd backspace does not work, one sure fire way to do it would be the following command in the terminal
rm /Applications/Skype or whatever your folder is. But be careful about that. The rm command is irreversible and clumsyness on the keyboard could cause undesired files to disappear. Best to go to the directory of the folder before deleting it cd /Applications and then rm Skype again assuming that the desired item is called Skype and it is in the / Applications directory.
