Well you are not supposed to replace them yourself, but if you again  
can obtain a replacement battery, you could replace it. I believe it  
requires a certain type of screwdriver, but really unless you just  
don't have an Apple service center near you, it isn't such a problem.  
You can easily access the battery since you can remove the bottom  
cover to replace the drive or ram yourself and the battery is right  
there. The reason as I stated that Apple didn't want people doing this  
is the way the battery is constructed.
