Hey Jon, You might have better luck working with your outdated copy by using the mouse. Route the mouse to the VO cursor (I think the command is vo+cmd+f5 - have a look in the menu by pressing vo+f7) and clicking (vo+shift+space). That's how I got the old bookshare app working, as well as some other apps which don't respond to the VO press command.
