Tethering is a feature supported in the iPhone 3.0 software that is 
enabled (or not) by the carrier. For the US ATT has decided not to 
support tethering so I can't try to reproduce the steps here. You might 
try turning on tethering on your iphone and connect via USB to see if it 
pops up as a network connection.
