Sometimes the hotels dont' actually have the service, it is a third- 
party provider and they must have a deal where they provide the gear  
etc. don't know exactly how that works, but yeah, a scam. Some hotels  
do provide free access and so scan about when your at a hotel and you  
might be surprised what you find. I got free wired service in one  
place when I had to call their tech support person who came up and  
fiddled around for a good 45 minutes till he figured out the problem  
was the hotels modem. Once he got that resolved, he gave me a password  
and login ID so I would not have to pay for the service. :)
