Hi, The blank column is status; if you read a message, that column shows as blank, but if you haven't read it yet, it says "Unread." If you reply, it says Replied. If you interact with the messages table, you can choose the column you want and move up and down that column and only hear the information in that column. So If you move up and down the Subjects column, for instance, you only hear subjects. This makes going through e-mail much faster. Sometimes you end up getting out of that mode, such as when you move a message to a mailbox. If that happens, just start interacting with the table again.
Also, do you know you can type VO-J to jump between the messages table and the contents of the focused message? I love this feature, and it makes reading e-mail very fast.
