Hi, In the U.S., Bookshare membership costs $50 per year plus $25 the first year as a set-up fee. You can reduce the cost by scanning and submitting books and/or proofreading books others have scanned; you earn credit that you can deduct from the following year's fees. The number of books available internationally is growing, but you'd want to check first to see whether there's enough that you would want to make it worth it. I know the O'reilly books are available worldwide, adn several other publishers have made their books available worldwide as well.
In the Windows version, the Acapella voices work only with the reading program, not with other applications. I don't know about the Mac equivalents.
