Hello all, First, thanks to all for responding to my questions. This really did have me perplexed. It helped a lot to think of the DMG files as a sort of zip file. I really wasn't sure what the DMG thing was about, so wasn't sure how to interact with it. To further complicate things, I must have originally typed a command or two incorrectly. I think my confusion started when I wasn't able to initiate anything from the downloads folder, which is why I moved the disk image over to the apps. Folder. Next go-round I will have a good handle on how to work with a downloaded app, thanks to all of you.
The thing with the disk image still showing up is strange. I don't seem to be able to remove it from the trash. When I try, I get continue and Stop buttons that won't go away, except by pressing a cursor routing key on the braille display. Then I see a group that says something like "empty trash progress" but it's all images, so I can't tell what is going on there. I've left that open for an extended period of time, but it doesn't go away. This is all the more strange because I tried to recopy the disk image to my desktop thinking that perhaps I could delete it from there. My thinking was that I would try to open it and then eject it, as some of you have described. But when I tried to open it, I got an error message saying that the disk image couldn't be opened because the file had been deleted. So, I have no clue! :) I turned my Mac off this afternoon, and will try again tomorrow morning. Thanks again to all. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow. You only need to move the application file itself to the applications folder, unless it says otherwise in the unpacking instructions.
