I haven't poasted yet since I haven't used any apple products. I subscribed because I had heard about the IPhone from another list and I wanted to find out more information. I was blown away when I saw one in a store. I liked the fact I could get to menu items right away without having to memorize keyboard commands. I didn't have any trouble understanding voiceOver and I liked the quality of the music player. The only trouble I had was entering information. The clerk in the store was really patient and let me spend as much time as I wanted with the phone. I was really amazed at the type of interface. I have said over and over to some friends that someday somebody would exploit this kind of technology for the blind and nobody believed me. As far as the pacmate is concerned, I have one and I'm disappointed not about what it can or cannot do but about the lack of ergonomics. It is way to bulky to be a truly portable PDA. I use my Braille Lite a lot more than my pacmate because it is more portable. If there were some kind of driver for an external Braille display with a keyboard then I think the IPhone would offer the best interface bar none. Maybe Apple will adapt some of the haptic technology they have patented to produce Braille and other tactile information. I hope to use an IPhone someday but I'm waiting for my current phone to die and I would like to see the BlackBerry with Orator. I'm not expecting much but I would at least like to explore all of my options. I think my ultimate preference will be the IPhone because I'm convinced this is the direction things are going.
