Hello, I got in contact with someone at abbyy (eva webber product manager, [email protected]) who tells me that their product should be in compliance with some kind of accessibility law in the united states. I have forwarded the message below to this list because she asked me to contact her if I had further questions. I hope the ones o fyou that have already tried finereader and found it unaccessible would pelase contact her with more detailed information. I have not tried it yet (since my mac is not here yet) but according to her it SHOULD be accessible, it can do more then one page at once if the scanner supports it, and the program supports the recognition o fpages that are put in upside down (i read on this list hat it apparently did not, but she says it does). I think it would be good if abbyy got more feedback from blind users who are trying to use their product. Apparently it is still being updated because she says there will be a new version for os x 10.6, that might be a good point for more accessibility. I personally hope they will port the big brother over to mac os x. Hallo Anouk I have checked your requests back with our HQ. ABBYY FineReader Express Edtion has 508 compliance which assurase a good usability for people with sight disabilities. The program is able to recognise if you insert the documents upside down and correct it (you can as well do it maually) as well as proceed documents in batches (if scanner support it) The program supports OS 10.4 and higher (it will be updated to 10.6 once 10.6 is released) I hope I could help you. Pls contact me directly if you have additional questions. I have forwarded your request to our Product Manager Eva Weber who will get in touch with you directly. Unfortunately we cannot offer trial versions for MACs at the moment but may possibly be able to do that shortly. Eva will be able to provide you with more accurate information about that. I use my scanner + ocr software a lot because I need to scan and ocr books for my university study (i do this using a sheetfeader so books are first cut apart into loose pages) I wonder if the normal version of readiris will be ported to the mac because it seems from other people that I have contacted that the current version is not able to scan multiple pages at once or correct pages that have been put in the scanner upside down (a common thing that happens when you are blind and live alone). Also, I wonder if the current finereader version for the mac was developed for mac os x 10.5 because according to some other blind users it is not entirely accessible with voiceover. The thing is, i would really like to use a good scanning package like finereader on my mac but only if the full version is ported.
