It could also mean issues around international travel could be fixed. I'm in the US but I'm heading to Madrid later this year for some meetings and I'm assuming my iPhone will be useless there even though it uses GSM and has a SIM card. Or at least AT&T would happily charge me a small fortune to use it over there. Just checked their site and they call it "International Roaming" at $1.29 per minute. Nice.
