Hello Justin, If you press Control-Option-h twice, you'll get the VO commands menu. There are 13 menus, each with its own submenu. Its interesting to read through them all to get an idea of what's available. You'll never take them all in at once, but at least you'll have an idea where to look when you're hunting for a command. Also, if you find a command you want to use then and there, you just press Return to execute it.
When you open an application for the first time, it's always a good idea to explore its menus and preferences. You find an application's preferences by pressing Command-comma. You should not forget the Help, either. Almost every application has its Help to get you started.
