Hi May, In the View menu, you can eliminate columns you don't care about, such as the Buddy one. As for reading line by line, you can often arrow up and down using Snow Leopard, but for more precise control, you may need to interact with the text using VO-Down Arrow or, if Quick Nav is on, Down Arrow-Right Arrow.
