Hi Mackers andslackers,

I just installed Snow leopard through an upgrade process, and i have
to say it was quick and easy. When getting into SL, nothing was
bugging in terms of old apps. or maybe all the apps i use are
compatible.

I do have a problem when writing mails, as in not all the keys i press
are spoken as in leopard.

Now, i've spent about a couple of hours checking out the trackpad
commander and started assigning actions to various gestures, mainly
combining command and swipes or multitaps.

As i went about assigning differentactions to different combinations
of gestures and key, i noticed bugs when i interact with tables, or
popup menus. If, for example, i gotone command three finger swipe down
assigned to toggling the veil on and off, the vo and left or right
arrows were doing weird hings, jumping list rows or pressing in the
same list for assigning actions.

Also, i wanted to assign a command triple three finger tap to toggling
the trackpad commander on and off, though the action was correctly
assigned, the action didn't work. Same goes for closing windows for
which i wanted to use command pinch close. It was telling me that the
windows close action wasn't assigned.

I do really like the concept, as it is great for going around preview,
web pages and text editors. It gets a bit getting used to with a the
available commands, and assigning your own has to be carefully
recorded on a text dcument so as to refer oneself to it. Or better
yet, think through the actions to your own liking, then write it down
before assigning them. This process is long, but once completed the
experience can be very intuitive and new. I really hated having this
big slab in the middle of my hands and not being able to do anything
with it.

There are also custom applescripts you can assign to the gestures, and
automator actions. I haven't found the shotdown action in the list of
available actions. and tapping is limited to up to three fingers.

When you think about it, it's around 31 different gestures you can
make. Adding it a combo of the three modifiers command, option and
shift, that makes about 124 customizable commands for whatever you
want. Ok. i might have calculated wrong, but this is just a general
idea.

If these bugs i aforementioned are fixed, this can well become the
defacto way of interacting and doing stuff with the trackpad. Really
exciting.

For those of you lucy to have the multitrack, get writing and storming
for your own set of gestures. And for those waiting with the older
trackpads, Consider seriously getting a mutlitrack, either via a new
purchase (in which case you sell your old one somehow) or hope you can
use your iphone as the trackpad, in which case you can sort of have
your remote book reader and music editor. The possibilities are endless.

In the end, i'm really glad to have gotten SL, it just needs a bit
more stability with the trackpad and it's annexed commander menu.

Hope this sort of helps.

best

Yuma
