It is better to do a clean install of Mavericks. Then do a backup to external
disk so you are future proof. Just reinstalling Mavericks will not fix much is
may tips. Although i am a newbe as a mac user this is my learning.

Take care

Hi. I am trying to reinstall Mavericks using the OS reinstall option on set up
I can select my drive and I can download Mavericks all the way to 100%, but
then it gets stuck on downloading additional components. I have let it run for
your four hours at a time, with no good effect. How long does this part usually
take, and is there some problem I can work around this? Any help much
appreciated.
Bill
