If you are interested in programming on the mac Apple do their own suite available free in the Mac App Store called Xcode. I'm not going into details of what it can do as it's too complex for some. Suffice to say it allows you to develop apps for both Os X and iOS platforms. One neat feature is when you run an iOS app it runs in its own simulator called iOS simulator. So you do not require an iOS device to test an iOS app. This is all I will say for now so have fun and happy programming!
