To insert a formula in Numbers you don't need to click on anything, insert anything from a toolbar or menu or jump to or interact with the formula scroll area. All you need to do is navigate to the cell, press the enter key and then type the formula. You may find the formulas and functions help page, accessible from the help menu, useful in this regard to learn the various formulas and functions. If you start using functions, one tip is that after you start typing one or more characters, Numbers offers you suggestions. You can just use the left and right arrow keys (with QuickNav turned off) to navigate between the suggestions. Press return to choose a suggestion.
