If you are running any variant of AOL's AIM (Android, iOS, Mac, Windows,
Web etc.) you can SMS with somebody by adding a buddy named with a plus
sign followed by their phone number. So adding
+15555551212
would send and receive SMS messages from that phone number. Not sure how
this works internationally but in the states it has to start with a 1
which is the US country code.

If you do a google search for email sms or mms, you can find a list of
providers and their email addresses for sending text messages. It's usually
phonenumberatprovider.com, but not always. I don't have an accessible cell
phone, and my husband has a tracfone, and I text him a lot using Mac Mail.

So are there any desktop texting apps for the mac? We have iMessage, but not
everyone I know has an iPhone. Any suggestions?
