Welcome Kevin! I just joined this group on Monday. I already have learn a few tricks. I know when I get stuck I will turn to these intelligent much more experienced Mac users to save me. I converted from windows in June and in those three months I have moments of bewilderment and frustration causing me to question my decision then it is soon followed by an experience where I realize I now have access to certain programs or sites I never did prior to switching. For the longest time, I struggled in windows since I used Window Eyes and only one other person I knew did too. Often, my sighted friends would tell me about a site or feature they insisted I had to use but I coul never. I'd explain my limitations with screen readers and they could never understand it usually until they visited and sat with me as I played on the computer. They'd get even more frustrated than I ever was. Yet, after two solid years of reading, interviewing, and asking Mac users, hearing about accessibility advancements, and non stop listening to podcasts or blogs by blind users who switched as well as sending emails to Apple Accessibility and always getting instant replies, I knew this was the place for me. I took the blind leap and didn't even have a backup. I took my PC and donated to my nephew b/c I trusted in my learning curve, friends, this group, and Apple.
In just a short three months, I feel more a part of the world and with many of my friends owning Macs, I can even turn to them although they are sighted and they turn on VO and play with it too just to better understand what I am doing in case they ever need to help.
