Hi,

You can use all of the methods suggested, including your own, as long as the SD 
card is selected.  So, either select it in the Sidebar or on the Desktop 
depending on your Finder Preferences, then cmd-e, VO-shift-m then choose Eject, 
or press the Eject button as you did.
