Thanks a lot, I really appreciate the help. I'll give this a whirl
tomorrow when I'm on the mac.
Thanks again,

Hi,
For app specific settings, go into VO Utility and choose Activities (cmd-0).
You can set things up differently with quite a bit of specifics there. If you
check the Additional box, you could go into the Pronunciation dictionary and
remove the entries for things like :) and ;). You could use Activities to
change the voice while in X-Code as well. You may wish to use Fred as he is
one of the original Mac voices and is less breathy than Alex.

Hello all:
I'm looking for a way to remove smilies with voiceover. I'm editing code with
XCode and all the objc symbols end up translating to smilies.
Also, are there app-specific settings? I'd like to turn up punctuation mode for
XCode and leave it where it is for everything else.
Finally, this is sort of off the topic, but I find editing code with Alix a bit
weird. I'm used to a more mechanical voice like eloquence reading. Are there
more productive voices that could possibly work, perhaps a method to use ESpeak
with voiceover?
Thanks,
