Just to add to what's already been said:

Be aware that iCloud backups *DO NOT* include media that you synced with 
iTunes.  You will not get media that you ripped from CDs unless you have an 
iTunes Match subscription.  Podcasts may not all be available, although your 
subscriptions may still be.  PDFs in iBooks will not be backed up at all.  TV 
shows or home videos that were not uploaded to iCloud will not be available.  
Etc.

In other words: if you used iTunes before, you have to keep using iTunes; if 
you didn't use iTunes, you should be fine to simply use iCloud backup.

I like to think that Apple will remedy this.  Right now, apps are the only 
thing you can be certain will all be available when you do a complete restore; 
even your music is downgraded to 256K AAC, if you use higher quality.
