Tandom is an implementation of the VNC protocol. I expect as long as sound is transferred too, that you might be able to use VNC clients and servers on the Macintosh to accomplish this. Also, Apple provides "Back to my Mac" services that allow at least sighted individuals to control a computer remotely. There is also screen sharing, but the screen sharing (which does use a variant of VNC) is not designed to work beyond the local network as seamlessly as Back to my MAC does.
