All correct except that SSL works fine for incoming.

To add to this, if using aliases, one must set up the account in TB for the primary iCloud address. Then with this new account in focus, in the right pane at the very bottom is the Manage Identities button. There you will add your aliases and you also can add signatures to each one.

Its been a couple weeks but I think I selected the main alias in iCloud Mail on the web which is the default address in the To field when compsuing a new email. Its a list from which you can choose a different alias if you wish.

Not sure if this will be helpful but since it's Apple related thought

Hi all
I got iCloud to work in Thunderbird the mail account that is. Here are
the generic settings. Note only Imap is supported, no pop I'm afraid.
Incoming server: imap.mail.me.com
port: 993
ssl required: yes
Username: first part of iCloud mail address.
Note any errors try startls instead.
Outgoing server: smtp.mail.me.com
port: 587
ssl required: yes
authentication required: yes
Note any errors try startls instead.
username: your full iCloud mail address.
Hope this helps any who wants to use iCloud mail on unsupported devices
including email clients such as Thunderbird.
