I somehow agree. I bought the late 2011 Macbook Pro with superdrive
thinking I would use it since am so used to DVD drives integrated into
PCs. I seldom use it and when I do it is for importing CDs into iTunes only.

Hi,
The only Mac that has a built-in optical drive is the older 13" MacBook Pro.
Even the new MacPro does not come with a built-in DVD optical drive. My
understanding is two fold. This makes it a more sleek and lighter machine and
looking forward. Apple saw the demise of floppy drives back in the 90's and thus
did not include them in their introduction of the iMac back in the late 90's. With
the movement towards digital everything, Apple is likely using the same approach
with the optical drive. Those folks who still think that they need an optical drive
are able to use external USB optical drives including Apple's USB SuperDrive. I had
numerous conversations with people who felt that they still wanted the optical
drive, but when looking back over their use, found them to be so seldom used, that
they weren't worth the extra weight in their laptop.

So I just got a new Macbook Pro, and like my old Air, it doesn't have a CD
drive. Do none of the Macs have CD drives anymore, and why not? I don't
generally need it, but it's not uncommon to have to install something by CD, or
for some album to only be available on CD. Just curious.
