Hi,

I recommend a program called octave. You can read more about it at
http://www.gnu.org/software/octave
.

Matlab is the standard for technical computing and octave is matlab
compatible. It supports functions for descriptive statistics,
statistical tests, and numerical analysis just to name a few.
Functions that perform analysis expect a multi demintional matrix
where the rows are the observations and the columns are the
variables. I believe that there are add-on statistical packages for
octave.

Note that this can be used on the Mac as well as Windows and no
special scripting is needed. There is a learning curve, but if you
are in upper level mathematics, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

there are links to pre-built binaries at
http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/download.html
. Note that macports builds it from source and it isn't working at
the moment. Everybody seems to think that is is 64 bit related, but
the binaries seem to work fine.
