Ah yes, interacting first -- the obvious solution. Are you generally
using a U.S. keyboard for input? I couldn't tell, which is why I gave
you the alternate solution of using the Commands menu for things like
expanding and sorting. Even there you have to interact first to see
the option.
There are actually Mac shortcut keys to expand all streams at once if
you are at the folder level. I don't use them, because they also
update the feeds, and if you're opening radio feeds they take a while
to open everything, and navigating is also more of a nuisance. You
have to expand or collapse streams (or, for that matter, podcast
subscription folders) at the top level, so unless you only plan to
keep a few categories open, it's easier to collapse the stream again
when you're done. If you want, you can try Command-Option-Right
bracket to open all streams. Be aware that you won't be able to use
Command-Option-Left Bracket to close them again unless you are at one
of the top level stream categories, so if you have navigate with your
arrow keys to the middle of a list of streams that command won't work.
What I would do is make a playlist of the streams you want so you can
select and play streams from the playlist without having to navigate
the list of streams. You can select a few streams and use Command-
Shift-N ("New playlist from selection") or you can simply use Command-
N to create a new (blank) playlist that you name, then copy and paste
selected streams to it. If you want to do a lot of streams, you might

This tells you the sequence of commands to use, but doesn't go into
the details behind what is happening, and how to make sure about what
you are selecting. Make sure you have interacted with the Songs table
beforehand -- I generally position myself with VO-right or left arrow
to the "Name" column, and I may even use VO-Shift-H to check the
heading -- and that you may have pressed VO-space instead of VO-
Command-Space. If I'm going to go through a long list of selections
I'll lock my VoiceOver keys with VO-semi-colon. Then I arrow down (or
up) through the list by pressing Command-Space for each entry. (If you
pressed VO-space instead of VO-Command-Space you just get the bleep;
when you lock your keys it's easier to check that you're using both
the Command and spacebar keys -- especially since VO-space is such an
automatic sequence.)
Another thing to keep in mind is that VO-Command-Space is a toggle
action, so if you have selected an item and issue another VO-Command-
Space you deselect it. If you want to check on what you've selected,
use VO-F6. Try it with your first selection. It should be selected
when you start. If you use VO-Command-Space on your first selection
(instead of just when you add subsequent ones selections) you get "No
Selection" when you check with VO-F6.
So the recommendations are:
• make sure you interact
• lock your VoiceOver keys (VO-semi-colon) if you have a long list
(not necessary, but helpful)
• then turn off cursor tracking with Shift-F3 (VO-Shift-F3)
• arrow up/down and use Command-Space to select (or de-select, if you
make a mistake) entries after the first one (VO-Command-Space) --
doing the non-contiguous selection this way requires that cursor
tracking be turned off to jump over the items you don't want
• check what you have selected with F6 (VO-F6)
• when you're done, unlock your VoiceOver keys (press semi-colon)
• copy your selection (Command-C) or do whatever else you want
• turn cursor tracking back on (VO-Shift-F3)
There are probably simpler ways to do this now with the Snow Leopard
options. If you're into using AppleScripts, you can also find one
called "Jump to Playlist" at the dougscripts AppleScripts for iTunes
site. Go to:

and use item chooser menu to find the "Jump to Playlist" heading level.
