Hi Christine, I have heard that older macbooks won't run mavericks, but I'm not sure where the cut-off is. I have a 2012 mbp with a quad-core I7 and it runs mavericks fine. My model number is md103ll/a and you can find a lot of these on ebay. Hope this helps, Jeff
