Hi,

As mentioned by others here, the non-Retina Display model is an older 
considerably slower machine.  There certainly are ways of upgrading it to have 
an SSD and to swap out the optical drive sliding over your HD into its place, 
or just having an SSD.  All this can improve the speed and possible storage 
capacity of the unit but, in the process, you've increased the cost thus 
reducing the savings.  If I was purchasing a brand new machine, I'd simply go 
with the Retina Display unit as it has a faster processor, faster memory and is 
overall a better machine.
