Hi,

When I was a VP at FS, I used brailled index cards with pushpins and
yarn on a bulletin board. Then we kind of got MS Project working with
JAWS (a project FS has orphaned since) which, if one is good in tree
views and writing Project macros and filters, a blink could actually
manage a project. One of my personal drivers with JAWS was to support
programs people would need if they wanted to get a promotion at their
job. Sadly, the concentration on that small part of our budget has
been removed and I'm not sure what screen access tools on what
platforms provide access to high level professional programs but,
sadly again, I'd bet it is still JAWS whose quality in these areas and
keeping up with new releases has deteriorated over the five years
since I left.

ViewPlus does have a very cool way to use Visio with its embossers and
a tablet. This is expensive, uses a ton of paper but provides what I
think is the only real solution for complex charts and graphs in an
accessible.

If Apple gets haptic (tactile) feedback on its upcoming tablet,
someone could probably make a charting program just for us blinks that
can read/write files that the mainstream products can use which would
be the balls. I can even envision a solution for people who are deaf-
blind which should get me a prize or something.

Sorry for beating on FS atop this message. While I have very personal
reasons for battling with them they do produce JAWS, which, with all
of its faults, does provide access to far more programs and types of
programs of any screen reader out there. I'm told their hardware is
really good and I can testify to the fact that the people working on
these products at the engineering level really care about their
outcomes.

Happy CHarting,
cdh
