That menu option was removed in Yosemite, yes. Now you must open App Store and choose Updates, or else open About This Mac and use the Software Update button in there. Speaking of About This Mac, notice that it now takes you straight to the system overview in System Information, rather than another level of indirection. Both of these things would seem to be waging war against redundant access to the same features.
