When you misspell a word, and VoiceOver says one or more corrections, hit space to accept the first one. To choose another, down arrow, left or right arrow to the one you want, and press enter. If you are spellchecking later, just move to the end of a misspelled word to do this same thing, or vo-shift-m to bring up a menu of suggestions.
