The fact is that Apple has chosen, at the cost of reducing the price, to also reduce multicore performance of the high-end Mac Mini as part of its design. For a server, the newest Mac Mini is slower than the older. I am therefore keeping my older Mac Mini, and leaving behind Thunderbolt 2, 802.11AC and Intel Iris graphics, all of which are superior in the newer model, but none of which are important to serving, in favour of the processor performance, which is. If you don't run servers, Mac Mini may yet prove attractive. But I fear that this is yet another sign of Apple's trivialisation of the consumer market; after all, they have a Mac Pro to sell you. It's also worth noting that the RAM in the newest Mac Mini is soldered in place, just like the MacBooks, so choose your upgrades wisely. It saddens me to see this development; at least when it was just software, you could replace it.
