Hello Deedra,

Well, there’s a name from the past. Welcome to the world of the Mac.

You should feel quite at home with a Mac. Devices will mounted as on a Linux 
system. Although, this will be on /Volumes. The terminal will feel very 
familiar to you. Although, VoiceOver is not as good as speakup in the terminal. 
There are 2 package management systems that you can add to install packages 
within the terminal. One is called home brew, or something like that and the 
other is Mac Ports. Many of the familiar programs used on Linux appear to be 
available in Mac Ports.

I’m guessing that an IRC might be a bit clunky on the terminal with VO but I’m 
only guessing.

I have just installed the latest OS X Yosemite here and not reinstalled Mac 
Ports, so not in a position to test for you.
