Hi,

When I first got my Air, I installed mplayer osx, but I couldn't use its
GUI. Mor importantly, it wasn't playing all the file formats I needed.

So, I dumped it and used brew to provide myself with a mplayer built
from Linux sources. Now I can play flac and ogg, as well as alac,
howbeit only from the terminal.
