The terminology can get a bit confusing at times. Generally they call
the overall machine's operating system the "host OS". So in your case
your host is OSX. The virtual machine is called the "guest OS" which
could be Windows, Linux or anything else that runs on an Intel chip. I
think you can even download pre-configured vmware linux guest images.
